Postlude to Portugal

This was sweet sojourn. My Beloved and I enjoyed time together and we feel closer than ever before. He worked so hard to make the trip happen. Everything was seamless. For as much as we left our itinerary behind and followed our hearts to Portugal, our hearts are deeply rooted in Canada.

Our eyes were opened to the struggle of the people, trying to earn a living in the simplicity of daily life. We are blessed. Life is not complicated if we keep our eyes on sharing what we have and in serving the Lord. It has been said recently that we strive so hard to obtain gold, but in Heaven the roads are paved with it. Our priorities so quickly become askew. There was renewal in Portugal. My point of view was clarified. Service and Simplicity. These are the keys to a fulfilled life.

One of the humbling activities that we have embarked upon is counting our blessings. This is not measured in bank accounts. We mean people. There are people from the past and people in the here and now – with more people to come – all for a reason. We will be in Heaven with all of them. Rejoicing and praising – all on the same page – we are children of the King and we will be there to surround Him. We are looking forward to it!

We thought about our family constantly. We are so grateful for them. Our grandchildren are our joy. We feel so undeserving of everything that God has done in our lives. Daily we prayed for them – while we were an ocean apart. They are our spiritual children as well and this brings us great joy.

It’s never a problem to hang out with my best friend, My Beloved. Time flies, conversation is easy and we many times think about the same things, talk about each others daydreams and generally land on the same page. One of the many benefits of a long life together.

Portugal created a zone of time to talk, be, and live. It is now a very pleasant memory and daily it provides the beginning of a sentence which starts something like….’don’t you wish we could go to…..'(name an Algarve beach).

We are thankful, energized and ready to realign our priorties to match the portuguese – simpicity and service.
