Va ‘STAY’ cation – Day 9 Portugal

Our little apartment in Porches, Portugal (www.dreamholidayrentals.com) overlooks the mercurial Atlantic Ocean. The owner has aptly named it Por do Sol (Sunset). on this day we thought we would explore yet another beach, one of the world’s top 100 beautiful beaches at Marinha.

However, lazy breakfast on the balcony produced more laziness in our activity – before we knew it, we were lounging all day at our ‘home away’ – a stay-cation while on vacation. We shared tidbits from our respective reading choices with each other and generally whiled away a gorgeous day in The Algarve. Since we had not been at the beach at sunset, we reserved this special treatment for Marinha. Any adjective you assign for this beach is truly an understatement.

Completely surrounded by cliffs that were compressed by volcanic and oceanic convergence, this beach embodies ‘awe’. Honestly if there are other beaches more beautiful at this moment in time, it seems incomprensible. As the sun is lowering, there is additional paint smeared on the rock tapestries highlighting red gold rocks that appear like lava even still.

We took so many photos because every angle needs to be captured in its uniqueness. Reluctantly as the sun is continuing to paint, its farewell for us as we traipse up the cliffs via a well developed stone step system. It almost lends the illusion that you don’t need to ascent 100 feet (but you do). However, the sunset is best viewed from cliff tops – the sky is streaked with rosy pinks against a bright blue backdrop. The moon starts to take over and the visit is well worth the hike.

On our car ride home we were stunned by the old villas dotting the rustic ride – this is living. We started dinner and once again enjoyed each other’s company on the balcony having capped our vaSTAYcation with a mini adventure tucked inside.
