Double digit grand parenting is a little surreal. How could ten years go so quickly? He changed our lives at the first moment when we heard his infant squeak over the telephone. We were certain that he could hold conversations with us from the ‘get go’. He was so far away across the miles – but never far in our hearts. One little squeak and it’s love!
Over the years we spent our time and our resources so that we would have a deep, meaningful relationship with our one and only grandchild. We watched Thomas the Train, Star Wars and hockey. We have visited dinosaur museums, the Science Centre and the Zoo – we rang in the new year together, spent Christmases together and celebrated birthdays. We’ve built snowmen, made cookies, and shopped. We’ve read books, snuggled and played games. We have crammed a lot of love into ten years. From the voicemail telling us he accepted Jesus in his heart to hearing him recite a Bible verse – our hearts are overflowing with love for this little man. The thought that he is a treasure that will go to Heaven with us is simply incomprehensible.
The best part? We get to spend another day with our special blue eyed boy. God is so good to us!
Grandchildren are truly one of the biggest blessings you can possibly imagine. The fact that we were given this blessing so early in our lives was a gift beyond our wildest imagination. Our grandson has elicited the purest joy from the bottom of our hearts.
So bring on the hockey games and the crazy fun times watching movies and playing Scrabble. Any time that we have with our beloved grandson is a bonus in our life and we welcome it.
Happy Birthday Great One! Nana’s laughing will only become more hysterical as you continue to develop your sense of humour!
