The Face of Forgiveness

It was a gloomy day enhanced by a Canadian cold front. We wound our way through the Pennsylvania back country to Meetinghouse Road where an old one room school house has weathered time. The candles flickering in the windows welcomed us inside to the warmth of celebration and fellowship.

Once inside, the small group waited expectantly as this ‘day of days’ was the capstone of a long period of time of sorrow, fear, sadness and now…FORGIVENESS! God, our ultimate Healer, took two hearts shattered by sin and picked up the pieces and put them back together. He created a new song, a new smile, a new realization that truly what HE puts together – man should not try to put asunder.

The bond of brothers and sisters in Him that surrounded the two hearts was steadfast and joyful. With deep understanding of current statistics, everyone was mindful that God remains on the throne and His mercy and grace continues to flow freely through His son’s work on the cross. FORGIVENESS offered. FORGIVENESS received. Reconciliation because of God’s amazing grace.

Joyfully and freely, the two hearts made one so long ago, walked hand in hand to meet their counselor and friend. He spoke words of truth with deep conviction and great kindness to them. They listened with understanding and clarity. This was understanding gained through worldly wisdom and the hurts that happen when we step outside of God’s protection.

They faced each other and read their heart’s desire about the days ahead. Thier desire to commit to a new day for their family. One that began with forgiveness, bound by true love – patience and kindness. Their promises and declarations were solemn and spoken through the filter of gratefulness. Realization of what could have been and now, what is to be.

The commitment of heart and soul before devoted family and friends brought applause, tears, smiles and great glory to God. Their joyful embrace of each other and their children, and all guests sealed the moment in the candlelight of the school.

Many photos, many smiles, laughter and delicious food celebrated the occasion to the fullest extent. With hearts overflowing, we all bade goodbye until the next time. Friends old and new, the newly united couple, beloved family embraced and rejoiced. A Canadian cold front brought warmth from within – we could not possibly be deterred. God’s love covers everything – if we are willing. This was a day never to be forgotten. An example to follow – written on the faces of forgiveness.
