The End of a Perfect Week (Final Blog from North Carolina)

So here we sit, in the peace (apart from the crashing surf) of our condo…door wide open still and the ocean winds refreshing us. We had ‘date night’ tonight. We actually left our condo and went in our car to a restaurant. This was a very big deal for us – as we haven’t done this all week! We have been holed up in North Carolina heaven.

It was magical.

Cooking meals. Beach walking. Reading. Sleeping. Chatting. Fellowshipping. Learning new things.

Therapeutic and restful. Perspective has returned. I’m so grateful for every minute.

We returned home from date night, which included a walk through K-Mart (how old fashioned is that) and a requisite stop at Dunkin Donuts for a coffee. We bravely faced the packed bags and did the deed – albeit reluctantly. We loaded our little beach car with our belongings including a couple of stowaway shells – the ‘trinket’ of choice that resides in a big bowl in our bedroom at home. We collect rocks and shells from every trip we make and they are kept where we can see them – our little secret. Who knows that these things came from Italy, Manitoulin Island, Newfoundland or North Carolina? They don’t scream out Barbados, Florida or Prince Edward Island. Nor do they share they were imported from Nova Scotia or South Carolina. But they all share the same space – our mementos of our love of travel.

So in the morning, we head ‘north’ again. But this car ride will be a little different – I don’t believe I will be in a coma. I will be enjoying the Chesapeake Bay Bridge and the ride back to Pennsylvania for the way to a friend’s house is never long.
